Game Dog Guardian Available Dogs
Name: Violet
Sex: Female
Age: 3-4 years
Weight: 50 lbs.
Needs: Forever Home
Check out Violet's Dogster page! http://www.dogster.com/dogs/1116138
From hell to happiness. Violet came to us from an awful cruelty case in the Midwest. Violet was super shy when we met her, but she is gaining confidence in her foster home every day. Violet is lilac and white (or violet) and her foster dad says she is quite the little head turner. She is a very sweet, docile girl who still has some fears to overcome with new people and places. Violet needs an owner who has plenty of patience and knows how to help a shy dog come around. Violet is crate trained and
housebroken. She goes into her crate willingly when it's that time, and even picks it as a napping spot on occasion. Violet is quite easy to handle on a leash with a standard collar. She does know sit, and she comes when called most of the time. Check out pictures of Violet at Pit Bull E.D.U. here! She is about as sweet as her shyness will allow, and she is making great progress. Violet’s ideal placement would probably be as the only pet in a quiet adult household. She does perfectly fine in an apartment setting right now, her energy level is low to moderate for a pit bull mix and she doesn't make a peep outside of her adorable grunts and groans.
Name: Bo
Sex: Male
Age: 2 years
Weight: 65 lbs.
Needs: Forever Home
Bo is still pretty much a puppy with a ton of energy to play. He and his brother were thrown out of a moving car and wound up at the shelter. He goes to doggie daycare each week and has been for nearly a year. Bo enjoys obedience training with his foster dad and loves to play fetch. He gets a little fussy on a leash, but his foster parents are working with him on it every day. Bo’s ideal home would be with a sister (boy dogs are too much competition for the lovely ladies) or as an only pet. Like any dog, Bo has super awesome qualities like: being completely crate trained, snuggly, and loving the doggie puzzles. He’s great with kids and everyone at daycare adores him. How could you not want a dog with these ears?!
Name: Doodlebug
Sex: Female
Age: 1-2 years
Weight: 40 lbs.
Needs: Foster Home & Forever Home
Doodlebug is one of the Sumner County dogs. This petite girl is just getting to explore her puppy side! Having been chained up her entire life, it took Doodlebug a little while to get used to running around the yard. She is curious and playful, and once she found out how to play fetch with the
tennis ball, there is no stopping her! Little Doodle isn’t too shy and yet isn’t too energetic or pushy…she’s just right. Doodlebug is enrolled in Pit Bull E.D.U. and is a joy to have in class. She has been good meeting other dogs, but would do best with a large brother (like Gen. Patton!). She loves it when she gets visitors and gives gentle kisses through her kennel to show everyone that she’s just an overgrown puppy looking for her forever home. After a long play date, she hates to see people leave and she’ll give out a raspy whimper…then promptly settle in to her cozy bed. Poor Doodlebug is heartworm positive. Donations for her treatment can be made to the Lawrence Humane Society who has graciously offered to treat the dogs at a reduced cost. Click here to donate. Name: Gen. Patton
Sex: Male
Age: 4-5 years
Weight: 65 lbs.
Needs: Foster Home & Forever Home
Gen. Patton is one of the Sumner County dogs. This big bulldozer is as sweet as they come. Dubbed “Hero,” this big bear is a survivor and a hero. Patton is built like a bric
k house and at first glance, his cranium is a tad intimidating. But that won’t stop you from falling in love with this guy. Patton loves to go for walks and say hello to everyone he meets. He’s a smart boy and will play tricks on you if he gets too bored. His favorite game is to pretend he’s listening to your command and then exit stage left. But who can blame him? He’s been chained up his entire life and just wants to walk around and
smell the flowers. Gen. Patton would do best in a home with a female dog or as an only dog. Since his head is likely the size of 3 dogs combined, you’d be hard pressed to find enough room for another dog around him. He hasn’t met any kids or cats yet, but he’s a friendly boy who’s comfortable in his own skin. He has some scars on his face and body from the rough first few years of his life, but Gen. Patton tells us they add character. Fortunately for Patton, he is not heartworm positive like the girls and after a few obedience classes, will be ready for adoption.
Name: Stella
Sex: Female
Age: 3-4 years
Weight: Tons of Fun
Needs: Foster Home & Forever Home
Stella is one of the Sumner County dogs. Sweet Stella was named after the pit bull pig princess in Bernadette Peters’ new children’s book, “Stella is a Star.” Named mostly because she’s a tubby little pit bull with a pink piggy nose, this little girl would LOVE for her forever family to dress her up like a princess, tiara and all. She
sure was happy to shed that rusty old tow chain and is looking to trade it in for a diamond studded collar some day. Stella is a girly girl who will look fabulous in a pink sweater come winter. After being chained up her entire life, Stella’s favorite thing is to run full speed ahead and slide to you on her tubby belly like a runner stealing
second base. She also likes to sprawl out frog-dog style and get her back scratched while the wind blows her ears back. With lots of food and love from the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department and inmates, Stella packed on a few pounds over the last few months. Once she gets regular exercise, she should slim down to a healthy 50 lbs. or under. Sweet Stella is heartworm positive. Donations for her treatment can be made to the Lawrence Humane Society who has graciously offered to treat the dogs at a reduced cost. Click here to donate. Be sure to tell them your donation is for the Sumner County dogs in the message section.
Name: Spencer Tracy
Sex: Male
Age: Senior Citizen
Weight: 55 lbs.
Needs: Forever Home
This Bull Terrier just joined the ranks as an ElderBull (like Sarge) and is looking for a foster home as soon as caninely possible. The cold shelter floor is uncomfortable for Spencer’s arthritis and the fact of the matter is, after all these years, he deserves to fall asleep in a soft fluffy bed. As distinguished and handsome as his namesake, Spencer is a certainly a charmer. So much in fact, that he has a female kennelmate named Snowflake that he snuggles up with at night. Spencer has a low energy level and would do well with light to moderate exercise. He has an affinity for toys that compliments his energy level nicely. Spencer will nap all day and show you some spunk when you get home from work. This guy was left at the shelter after his owner died. He’s been waiting for a new family for months. Help get this distinguished gentleman back in a home where he belongs.
Name: Mira
Sex: Female
Age: 7 weeks (born June 2, 2010)
Weight: Tiny
ADOPTION PENDING
Mira came from a cruelty seizure and lo
st her mom when she was only 6 weeks old. She is as sweet as they come and not only will her gorgeous fawn coat and bedroom eyes find her a home, her amazing temperament will seal the deal. One minute with this pretty lady and you’re sure to fall in love (mostly thanks to her soft kisses and tantalizing puppy breath). Mira is our shy girl, but she listens well and loves to play.
